You may be operating a business that makes a lot of calls and just found out that your business’s phone number comes up as Scam Likely. If you are like me, you have a legitimate business and that business makes a lot of calls. If a small portion marks your number as spam likely, you may be at risk.

We recently found this out and decided we needed to update our numbers.

The problem was that our new numbers also showed up as spam likely. Now, we use TalkRoute (which is currently offering a free month), so I’ll show you how I came up with a new number that is not “scam likely” or “spam risk”.

Tip 1: Don’t Find a Number That May be Common

First, I wanted to find a number that was memorable to our users who were calling us back, so I decided on 888-333-9040. Unfortunately, there were two problems with that.

  1. Many businesses probably have used this number, which may be why we got numerous calls from random numbers not related to our business.
  2. More businesses having the number probably means higher likelihood that the carrier market it as spam.

Let’s cover the second tip.

Tip #2: Find a Numer that Is Not Easy To Remember

I ended up with a number that is not easily remembered. My hypothesis is that other businesses would not be looking for those numbers as often.

I decided to find a number that was not easy to remember, and it worked and did not show up as spam likely

Tip #3: Make Sure to Call At Least 3 People To Confirm Not Spam Likely

After I found a number, I asked some colleagues whether they would be okay with me calling and which carrier they use. I decided to only call those that had Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile as those are some of the bigger carriers, but you could obviously call more to confirm

Form to confirm not spam likely

After 3 or 4 phone numbers, I had success. Voila. The phone number did not show up as spam likely for any of the three carriers. Hopefully, this article has been helpful to you. Please reach out to savedbythecents@gmail.com if you have any questions.
