Happy 2022. At Saved By The Cents, we are all about saving cents on purchases from diapers to at-home COVID tests. It’s all about the deals for us, so I thought it would be fun to put together my favorite cheap Amazon purchases.

How I Make Sure I Get The Cheapest Amazon Prices

Before I begin, I don’t really trust Amazon REVIEWS or PRICES. For large purchases, I almost always use the free price checking site Camel Camel Camel (odd name, I know) as they have price trending graphs. Please note I generally do this for larger purchases as my time feels more valuable than saving $1 on a purchase.

To spot fake reviews, I use the free website, FakeSpot. I use this for brands I don’t really know or trust, mainly just for larger purchases (over $50).

At Home COVID-Tests

Unfortunately, my family has had some COVID scares recently due to the rapid Omicron expansion. As we live in the bay area, California, it feels near impossible to find COVID tests. As such, I looked on Amazon. We wanted them quickly, so I was skeptical we would receive them in time.

To my surprise, I purchased 2 packs of these COVID tests on December 28th, 2021, and received the 2 packs on December 31st, 2021. It took only 3 days while all of the stores continue to be sold out.

And the best of all? The price per test is $8.99 per test, which is quite a bit less than the $10+ we’ve been using before.

Coffee

My family is doing Keurigs at the moment, so this is an expense that I often track down to the penny how much each Keurig costs. The key is the cost per count (i.e. $.35 per count). We don’t do the 12 counts as those tend to have a higher cost per count.

As such, at the time of this writing, my favorite Keurig coffee is the 100-pack Amazon brand (French, dark, Columbian) roast.

The price per count is currently ONlY $.21 per count. I also took advantage of Amazon’s 40% for the subscription, so that decreased even more. After the subscription, I decided to cancel but still got the lower rate.

Hand Soap

My wife asked me to purchase hand soap, and her distinct request was, “No $1 hand soap”. She knows me too well that I look for the bargains. That said, I wanted to do her proud considering I am sitting in my room with COVID.

We like Meyers Clean liquid hand soap, but the biggest thing to compare is the price per ounce.

The key here is to purchase the refill (unless you don’t have anything to fill). Check out the price per ounce differences

Conclusion

Sometimes it feels like you can’t live without Amazon. Thankfully, I have put together some hacks along the way to help me save as much money as possible.
